They willfully put God to the test by demanding the food they craved. Psalm 78:18 NIV Bible
We were out of town recently, and went out to eat with some friends. There was a big picture of a dish that was on special, and boy did it look good! I was determined that I was going to order it. Not only did it look good, but it also was an extremely reasonable price.
Well, I told my friends about the special deal I was going to order. I think my description was so vivid that one of our friends ordered the same thing that I had. Anyway, there was a misunderstanding by the person, who took our order, and the friend didn't get the same thing, and that person was really disappointed. I decided to eat what they got, and give that person my dish that I ordered. It didn't bother me at that point, but the more I looked at the dish of food I had given away, the more I craved it.
In fact, I decided that I wanted to eat that dish so much, that I contacted a family member, and suggested that we go to that same restaurant to eat....really, my motivation was so I could order that particular dish and finally get to try it. That night I struggled, because God through the Bible tells us not to covet things. I did end up ordering that dish, and although it was a good deal and looked wonderful, it wasn't worth all the effort I put into ensuring that I had the opportunity to eat it. I had craved that food, that really wasn't something I should be eating to start with. What's worse is, I knew I should crave something so much, but I still followed through in making sure that I got it. I have to prayerfully ask the Lord God's forgiveness, because He had given me the feeling that these cravings weren't good for me, but I did it anyway! Fortunately, the Lord God, is very forgiving, and He has refocused my eating!
